2017 summer kickoff

It was around 2:15 when my airplane had descended from the seemingly clear skies of Washington D.C. As I sat there in my plane seat, I began to seriously imagine what my experience with the General Board of Church and Society would be like. I was thinking about who I was going to meet, what kind of experience I was going to have with my workplace, and how my spirituality would evolve over the duration of the program. Later that night, I had the pleasure of being introduced to my fellow compatriots in the program as well as our director and mentor. While assessing the vibe of the group from then to today, it seems that everyone understands there is a time and a place for everything. We all had a serious demeanor during our first two days of orientation and we're friendly with each other during our free time.
On Wednesday, I started working with Fairvote. I was excited to begin interning with Fairvote because their objectives on trying to help create a functioning democracy though fair voting and my recent history with registering people in my community to vote correlated to form a mutual desire to make an impact in this country. For the three days that I have been an intern so far, I can still say that I'm in a wonderful environment and I will be tackling future assignments and research that I have great interest in. So far, it has been a smooth transition because I haven't had to do way too much from the genesis of my internship. But, I can't wait for the next week to start back and for me to dive into the next litany of tasks I'll be completing.
