This week has been more than just amazing, the first week it was challenging because I did not know what to do. During my second week, I got energized enough to feel the greatness of the internship. I have attended few committee hearings and I also had few tasks in the office which I was so proud to do. Following that my coworker and I volunteered to an event, where there were people from different religious--all those people were interacting and laughing showing the sign of love. From there I realize that the presence of God was at the event-- I was happy to be apart of the event.
As I said I attended few committee hearings during this week, it was very meaningful attending those hearing, because I witnessed myself how policies and decisions are made. Some of those affect those who are fleeing persecution, conflict, and war including the average Americans. It was a particular honor for being at those hearing and I am glad that I got to see it because the experience I am getting this summer of advocacy will be very helpful for my future career.
Kevin and I had the greatness to meet Mr. Cooper at Russell Senate office, It was a fantastic day. When I was off from my placement on Wednesday, Kendal told us that, there was an ice cream party going on at the senate office building, Kevin and I went for ice cream. After we arrived at the location we found a lot of people, we didn’t want to stay there too long, we finally decided to take our time. We had couples ice cream after that we started heading back. On our way back, I saw someone who looks like Anderson Cooper and told Kevin, you see that guy, Kevin said, “ Yes.” I told him that, he is the journalist, Kevin Asked me, “ Is that Anderson Cooper.” I answered yes. Kevin couldn’t believe it, we approached him and we took photos with him.
During this week, all the opportunities I had of attending the committee hearing, meeting with Anderson Cooper and attending events, I learned that, the impossible can turn out to be possible, especially getting this opportunity to live in Washington D.C., it was a dream to me, thanks to my church and Missouri Annual Conference I can’t call it a dream anymore, because being in the field where I can make contribution, especially be at the agency which has a role of advocate for justice, it is a dream coming true. I am and I will always be grateful to my God, who has made challenges that we face in life as a way to success.
