A New Week, A Full Week (2)

This week was pretty great. All of this week at work, I attended several different events. On Monday and Tuesday, I went to the Bread for the World 2018 Advocacy Summit and Lobby day. I met so many great people from Illinois who were also fighting for poverty. It was a faith-based event where we got to praise the lord while lobbying with our senators and house representatives (well their aids, you know how that goes). It was a great experience and I loved being able to network and meet all these nice people.
On Wednesday, I sat in on the Senate Agricultural Committee Farm Bill markup. I went in order to hear any changes that the Senate may want to have done on the food program known as SNAP. SNAP is the top food program that benefits millions of people all over the country. SNAP is what is helping end poverty and without it, so many people would suffer. It was a pretty cool experience. It was also nice that the markup literally took place across the street from our apartment.
On Thursday, I attended Ascend at The Aspen Institute where we got to listen into some practical solutions for lifting up children and families. It was very nice to hear personal stories in real life of people who benefit from all these programs that RESULTS (where I work) fights for on a daily.
I’d say I had an even better week because I also basically got free food all week long. I finally really feel accustomed to life in D.C. and I already know that I’m going to miss it so much but it’s time to live in the present.
