When I was in 8th grade, my graduating class and I came to D.C. on a big bus which took about 12 hours to go from Chicago to D.C. Now that I finished my first year of college, I was able to fly into D.C. and that only took less than 2 hours. At first, just so you can get a sense of how I felt, it kind of felt like someone dropped me in the ocean far away from land and I had to swim to find survival. I finally feel like I have found land thanks to Katie Monfortte and Mark Evans who put together this awesome GIANT binder with everything we might need to survive. They have also given us so many encouraging words and we’ve had some awesome prayers that have really helped make me feel at home.
Of course, I can’t forget about my awesome roommates! They have been so supportive, and they have reminded me so many times that, we’re all in this together. We’re all facing the same challenges. It’s so nice to have this group of people in which I feel safe with, we love God and we have such a passion for social justice that amazes me. All 7 of them Raquel, Litany, Joyce, Sydney, Nica, Roy, and Lucas are incredibly smart people. I don’t think I have ever spoken to other people my age that are so knowledgeable about God’s word and about what injustices the world is facing. We can all relate so much to each other and we can clearly see that.
I love my internship at RESULTS, Meredith Dodson has helped me feel comfortable in the office with all the other workers. It feels really good to fight for these health bills and these SNAP bills that have helped me grow up to be who I am today. It’s time that I help other children have the benefits that I once had that made me, me.
