Good Morning readers and fellow bloggers! As you all can see I am a little behind on the post for this week, but that means more great info for you. Normally you guys would only hear about my week up until Friday, but today you’ll get the whole week summed up in this post. So, let’s just dive right into it. Let’s start with my most memorable moment from the week; The Fourth of July.
So this Thursday we celebrated the Fourth of July, or Independence Day as some call it. But honestly in my eyes it’s just in other day off work. Independence Day is not a day I feel should really be as celebrated as it is. Simply because not all of us in the country are truly given the independence or freedoms we all deserve. I don’t think it’s right for a country who promotes democracy and freedom and independence but doesn’t enforce that or offer it to all its residents. I don’t understand how we put people in camps to send them back to a poor and unforgiving environments but parade around the world claiming to be the land of the “free” but that’s another story for another day. So on July 4th we went to old town in Virginia, are some good food and went back home. We watched a few fireworks from the steps of the Supreme Court but not very many we visible from there.
One thing that was pretty interesting about this week though was that I got to go to a press conference on Tuesday on D.C . Statehood. That was a very nice experience to be able to witness people getting up and speaking and testifying as to why they feel D.C. should be it’s own state and not just a district. Getting to hear D.C. Representative Eleanor Holmes Norton was the keynote speaker and moderator she gave her views and her opinions, and the crowd was very receptive to what she had to say. Meanwhile I was just in awe that I was in the same room with her. So as this blog comes to a close I just want you all to remember, “freedom ain’t free” and we still have a long way to get to it. We live in the self proclaimed “land of the free,” well I say it’s time to really get serious about freedom. No camps, no cuffs, no boarders; just freedom.
Until Next Blog, Jaylon T.
