This past week of internship has been great, it's great to meet other people from other internships who also share a passion for combating environmental injustices. This past Friday was very informative about issues occurring in today's time regarding the environment. We had people come forward to the zoom meeting to teach us about a lot of things. While we experienced a good time learning, there was also so many evilness that occurred in the outside world. It seems like a never ending story about our black and brown brothers and sisters that suffer injustices from both police and citizens. It's painful to know that someone can be killed for simply being their own self. That someone can hold so much hate in their hate for someone's skin color that they are willing to destroy the other persons community through policies and blatant hate. We as a society are no longer are tolerating this, it is pretty much apparent that a lot of the younger generation is standing up against the injustices in the world that will soon be left in our hands. Our own president has taken actions against marginalized groups to inflict harm on an already harmed group. It's important for all of us to use our voices against the hate that we may experience or witness. It's good to know that others feel the same way, from the internship and from others who use social media to advocate for others. This internship is a wonderful experience and I feel that other United Methodists who feel a call to speak out should join this internship. Although this year we are at a disadvantage because of the coronavirus, there is still things that can be done virtually to give a sense of accomplishment. I feel that this internship is a wonderful experience that should be shared with others.

  1. There is great power in coming together as one voice, one Church, one generation in this time. I am glad you feel connected to a large justice movement with your fellow interns and Social Media. Can you name specific ways you feel drawn to the justice movement?

    1. Hi Katie,

I feel drawn to the justice movements because I have always felt the need to stand up for those in pain and recently I have decided to act on that feeling. It gives a sense of pride to work with others to call out things that are wrong in society and it feels good to figure out what I can do to help and advocate.
